Summer heat, Little B D

Living on the East Coast most of my life has taught me two great lessons; the weatherman is a liar and black can be rocked no matter what season. The shade black has a bad rep when the Summer heat starts to show her ugly face in our neck of the woods and yet black looks universally amazing on everyone! I get it, the Sun and black are best friends and can really make you feel hotter than you should but I'm here to tell you that yes, you still can look fabulous wearing black this Summer.

You must think me crazy that I'll still be wearing black this Summer and yes, I am in fact a bit crazy but what can I say, it's all for the love of fashion! So here's my trick, WEAR LOTS OF CUTOUT ITEMS. I got this little black dress from American Apparel for a photoshoot this past Saturday and I won't lie, I felt a bit intimidated to wear it because it is a bit risque for my taste and also because I believed I didn't have the "RIGHT" body type to wear it. Instead of letting my insecurities get the best of me, I decided to buy it and wear for this extremely important photoshoot.

When I put it on for the first time, I was like "OH MY GOSH I'M NAKED," but then I got over it quickly when I walked outside to my car to head to the city. The cutouts that I was worried about actually saved my butt and I did not die from heatstroke. After a while realizing I actually looked amazing in the dress, I gained confidence and it showed at my photoshoot. I know this look isn't for everyone but it definitely works for Summer.

I've had dresses that unfortunately were too long or too short (thanks big butt) for my body type and really made me feel uncomfortable but the length of this little black dress was perfect for my height and actually made me look taller than I really was (shoutout to all my petite ladies!). I'm all for wearing what you want so don't get me wrong but I think for myself, a dress that's a bit above my knees are perfect.

If you know my style, you know I rarely wear heels and that I'm about comfort, especially in weather that makes you feel like you're in an oven being baked alive so I opted for some white sneakers that I bought at H&M. It also makes my Little black dress work more for the daytime then the night life (because I have no friends to hang with, boo me =[ ). Oh, and my bag is also from H&M which came in handy for storing my water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses, deodorant and some bandaids.

Last but probably my favorite part about my Little black dress is the back. There's something so beautiful about a women's bare back; it shows her soft, delicate skin but also the strength that she carries. It is very possible to wear black this Summer so don't be afraid to walk away from the colorful trend. Or if you're tired of wearing black and are happy for bright colors, go for it! Either way, wear what you love and don't let anyone tell you what you can and cannot wear.

Until then, Xoxo
